Construction to Begin in New Habitat Community

WHAT:         Construction will begin on the first eight homes planned for Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio’s newest community, Coleman Ridge. More than 400 volunteers are expected to man construction crews on Friday and Saturday.  Approximately 100 more volunteers are still needed on Friday to keep the homes on schedule.

WHEN:         Friday and Saturday, August 5-6; 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

WHERE:       Coleman Ridge

Directions:   Old Pearsall Road and Loop 410;  from downtown San Antonio, take 35 South (toward Laredo) to 410 North; take Exit #2 (Old Pearsall Road); turn Left and go under bridge; turn Right on Excellence Drive; follow the parking signs

WHO:           Hundreds of HFHSA volunteers, supporters and staff, as well as the families who will eventually call these houses “home” will brave the heat to raise the walls on these eight homes.

WHY:           Working in partnership with families in need, Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio works to eliminate substandard housing in San Antonio in hopes that everyone will have a simple, decent and affordable place to live. The homes are sold to the homebuyers who qualify for the program on an interest-free, 20–25 year mortgage.

HFHSA partners with the families, volunteers and sponsors to make homeownership possible for families who could not otherwise afford it.  These partnerships result in affordable homes with mortgage payments ranging from $375-425 per month.  HFHSA is celebrating its 35th year.   To date, the organization has build 713 homes, including the first Habitat home ever built in the United States.
