Chinese Drywall Not Used in Local Habitat Homes

Reports of the use of Chinese drywall in new homes and its harmful effects have been in the news for more than a year.

Recently, the drywall and its alleged use by another Habitat for Humanity affiliate have been back in national news.

Officials at Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio want to ensure local Habitat homeowners, supporters and volunteers that there have been no harmful materials used locally to build homes.

“It is important to us that everyone know we did not ever use Chinese drywall in any of our homes,” said Natalie Griffith, Executive Vice President of Program Operations and CFO.

Each Habitat for Humanity affiliate is its own autonomous organization, she said.

“Each Habitat is a stand-alone organization as are we here in San Antonio. While we have the same organizational focus of building simple, decent and affordable homes with families in need, we have no information about the building practices of other affiliates. We focus our attention on making sure our building is done according to our own high quality and safety standards.”

Individuals wishing to learn more about materials used in HFHSA homes may call the local office at 210-223-5203.
