What We Do
The Habitat Home Centers are home improvement thrift stores wholly owned by Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio. Our three San Antonio store locations sell both new and used home improvement materials to the public. All proceeds from sales in these stores fund the administration costs of Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio. This means that 100 % of every dollar donated to HFHSA goes directly into our homebuilding program. A full-scale model of a three bedroom Habitat for Humanity home is featured at the Probandt Street location.
We accept donations from individuals and organizations in order to stock the Home Centers. Donations are tax-exempt to the extent allowable by law. Customers can feel good about shopping at The Home Center; it is a great way to reuse materials in San Antonio’s building stock that might have been thrown away. Additionally, customers are able to buy good home improvement materials below normal retail prices while supporting Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio.
We also purchase new home improvement merchandise for resale from closeout companies, liquidators, manufacturers, and other sources of surplus goods. Many times the same merchandise you would find in large retailers is available in our stores for a much lower price due to a packaging change, label flaw, or insignificant aesthetic defect. These suppliers sell their wares to us at prices well below what a larger retailer would normally pay, which allows us to get a fair markup and resell these items at prices below normal retail. As a result you can always find flooring, cabinets, furniture, tools, refurbished computers/accessories, and area rugs in our home centers.
Additionally some of our merchandise is secured by our Wrecking Crew, which salvages reusable fixtures such as cabinets, doors, light fixtures, etc. from major renovation projects. See the Wrecking Crew tab above for more information.
